Trump started by bringing up a well know historical figure, Robert E Lee, and the leftist tearing down his statue.  The audience, well proud of their part in defeating the south, was not stirred.  Then he went on to show what Lee was able to accomplish and framing those accomplishments as something that all Americans should have respect for no matter what side of the Civil War we fought.

Then he went on by describing how next they went after the leaders of the north, Abraham Lincoln’s statue, Andrew Jackson’s, the Jefferson Memorial, and even George Washington’s and Gandhi’s statues,  This was to show that even though they might start with something that you don’t have a strong love of, they will eventually take those things that you do love.

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
