NOT REALLY. BUT THEY MIGHT IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES TO RATIONALIZE VOTING AGAINST REQUIRING ID TO VOTE.
Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, a true Rocks and Cows champion, has introduced HF 293 to require identification to vote. Senator Newman from the same district has introduced the Senate companion bill.
Glenn has been a focused leader on demanding election integrity. Rep. Gruenhagen was shocked and dismayed that Secretary of State Steve Simon asked the legislature for election changes, and then went and got those changes done in court AFTER the legislature said NO. Disappointed that the Minnesota courts would allow unconstitutional election rule changes to occur Rep. Gruenhagen asked Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to examine the constitutionality of Minnesota’s election law changes when an opportunity to have the changes reviewed in the US Supreme Court was a possibility. The Supreme Court refused to review any state’s election laws and thus we are waiting for Minnesota courts to undo COVID emergency justified changes, or a legislative fix to the lax new election rules.
Due to a DFL majority in the House it is very unlikely Rep. Gruenhagen or Senator Newman will see their bill reach Dictator Walz’s desk, and even less likely his progressive masters would let him sign it. It will be very interesting to see those DFL legislators that demand ID and background checks for gun loans between family members call Voter ID a racist danger to democracy. Until some changes are made by suing to return the previous election rules it appears the DFL cheat-by-mail and no ID voting system may remain in place.
